A Reminder About Missing the Wedding

I had this dream almost 3 &1/2 years ago, a time period which is significant in itself, and this week the Holy Spirit again brought it to my attention and stressed its contents. I was shocked at how easily we can forget the warnings given us by the Spirit and succumb to the distractions of business. Here is the dream:

After waking with the alarm and then falling asleep again, I dreamed that I was my sister Gayle's bridesmaid and we were standing outside a building with all the equipment and suitcases needed to get ready for the wedding. I had curlers in my hair and was struggling with the multi-layered hairstyle. It began to rain lightly and Gayle went inside. I took quite a time for me to gather up all the luggage and then I went inside to find a large entrance hall with rooms leading off it. I went into a room and found it was the venue for the reception. People were busy with the catering inside but Gayle was not there.

Then I heard her voice raised loudly in praise and followed its sound to a large rest-room which was filled with many women preparing. There were counter-tops and mirrors all round the walls - like a ladies' public bathroom. I managed to find space next to Gayle and put down all the stuff I was carrying. She was looking in the mirror and worshiping God. We did not speak to each other. I was still struggling with my hair as some bits had curled extremely tightly and others flicked the wrong way. I realized I would have to use the hot brush to fix it. At some point Gayle disappeared but I took no notice because I was busy fussing over my own appearance in the mirror. I imagined how my hair would look in the photographs and felt pleased. Two other women appeared and showed great interest in my preparations, exclaiming over what they found in the suitcase on the floor; however they actually obstructed my progress and got in the way. I was busy outlining my lips but all the makeup pencils were broken. I kept noticing that Gayle had not returned but then comforted myself because the veil was still in a packet on the floor and she would need to come back to put that on, before the wedding ceremony took place. I finally managed to get my white shoes on and discovered that my own wedding dress was also in the suitcase. “Oh,” I thought to myself, “we could have both been dressed in wedding dresses” but then decided to stay in my bridesmaid's dress. I packed up all the beauty aids in the suitcase, which was one of those soft clear plastic cases with zips used for storing things under beds. I considered text-messaging a friend to tell her Gayle was getting married but then thought that would confuse her because Gayle and her husband Stuart had been together for so many years already and seemed married to all intents and purposes, so I didn't. Then one of these interfering women called Gayle repeatedly in a very shrill voice. I looked through the doorway and saw a woman come out of a church building a little way up a hill, to say that Gayle could not come because she was busy and someone else would come to her aid instead. I rushed outside and asked where Gayle was and discovered that the wedding ceremony was almost over and they were about to take photographs. I was devastated and pointed out that she didn't have her veil. I strode up the hill to look for Gayle with a dark-haired woman accompanying me, and was crying and even swore once in anger and the woman laughed at this outburst. I was saying, “why didn't they tell me; why did they start without me?”I just kept repeating this over and over and the feeling of shock and devastation overwhelmed me. We passed a small clump of trees like miniature woodland with wooden pews in amongst them and I thought that was a possible venue for an outdoor wedding. There was still no sight of Gayle or the wedding party. Then I woke up very upset.

This dream affected me very much and I wondered why I had been the bridesmaid and not the bride. I felt the Lord say that He had allowed me to experience the emotions and shock of those who were not ready in time and would miss the wedding and also to point out to me that there were things in my heart that needed attending to. This dream is a depiction of the portion of those who do not understand the signs of the times and therefore miss their appointment. When the light rain began to fall, the Bride knew to go inside to the inner chambers and finish preparing. She went silently and was not found in the area for the feeding of the flesh but was busy praising the greatness of God in the REST-room; the place of Sabbath rest, having ceased her own fleshly labors.

Her preparation was quick because she was not concerned with her outward appearance but rather with the beauty and wonder of God. There were many women (representing churches) in that place of preparation but only those with understanding of the times got to attend the wedding.

Son 6:8 There are sixty queens, and eighty concubines, and virgins without number. Son 6:9 But My dove, My undefiled is one alone. She is the only one of her mother. She is the choice of her who bore her.

My mindset and understanding of how the event would happen was incorrect and this caused me to miss my appointment, because I thought the veil waiting on the floor signified that there was still time. However the Bride went to have a face-to-face appointment with her groom, whom she had been in an intimate relationship for many years by the Spirit. The name 'Stuart' means 'steward' and represents the Holy Spirit, who is a steward of the riches of Christ. The Bride has been in an intimate relationship with Him for many years and this fact is known to others who observe her. She would no longer see through a glass darkly and therefore did not need her veil (1 Corinthians 13).

The bridesmaid, in contrast, had many distractions sent to her which prevented her from completing her preparations in time. She could also have been part of the Bride (wedding dress is part of equipment provided for her) but she leaned on her own understanding and then chose the part of the bridesmaid, not knowing that all her wrong understandings and mindsets about how things would unfold would rob her of a part in the wedding. She was preoccupied with her appearance before men and her hair (anointing and gifting) and straightening out any kinks in it and was concerned about how she would appear in other peoples' eyes ( depicted by photographs) instead of walking in the fear of the Lord and focusing on Him like her sister, the worshiping Bride beholding in a mirror the glory of God and thus being changed. By the time this bridesmaid had made her choice just to be a supporting act to the Bride, the rest-room was empty except for the two distracting women- representing assignments from the enemy to lead her astray.

The disappearance of the Bride happened quietly and unannounced. There was no fanfare of any kind. She just slipped away, like she had slipped away into the inner chamber to prepare. I cannot express the depth of devastation that filled my heart in the dream when I discovered I had been left behind and missed the wedding – the very event I had so laboriously prepared for. It was too late and all my searching could not locate the wedding party. My vanity and self-preoccupation had cooked my own goose. The dark-haired woman represents the Spirit of Wisdom who provides counsel for preparation. She laughs because it is the bridesmaid's own fault – she has brought this situation upon herself.

Pro 1:22 How long, you simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? Pro 1:23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words to you. Pro 1:24 Because I have called, and you refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; Pro 1:25 But you have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: Pro 1:26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; Pro 1:27 When your fear comes as desolation, and your destruction comes as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Pro 1:28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: Pro 1:29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: Pro 1:30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Pro 1:31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

Other verses also came to mind:

Luk 10:41 And Jesus answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things. Luk 10:42 But one thing is needful, and Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

It is time to stop being worried about things that do not matter; external things, one's appearance in the eyes of others, one's anointing, and instead choose the good portion of sitting at the feet of Wisdom and receiving counsel and instruction. It is time to repent for repeatedly refusing and spurning the Lord's counsel because those He loves, He rebukes:

Rev 3:2 Be watchful and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die. For I have not found your works being fulfilled before God. Rev 3:3 Remember then how you have received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you.

Rev 3:17 Because you say, I am rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing, and do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, Rev 3:18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold purified by fire, so that you may be rich; and white clothing, so that you may be clothed, and so that the shame of your nakedness does not appear. And anoint your eyes with eye salve, so that you may see. Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten; therefore be zealous and repent.

The other impression I got was one of a seed being choked and bearing no fruit.

Mar 4:18 And these are those being sown among thorns; such as hear the Word, Mar 4:19 and the cares of this world, and the deceit of riches, and the lust about other things entering in, choke the Word, and it becomes unfruitful.

The bridesmaid's preoccupation with worldly things, with her own appearance and the things of the flesh resulted in her life producing no fruit. The fact that a wedding dress was part of the preparation tools provided, shows that within the bridesmaid is the potential to be a part of the Bride but her own self-centeredness and fleshly ways, coupled with her lack of understanding of the times, result in crop failure in her life. The great appointment with the Bridegroom is missed and there is no way to undo this.

This dream is a very strong warning about the extreme lateness of the hour and the urgent need to be found in the place of Rest, ceasing from our own fleshly endeavors to appear beautiful and spiritual to others - and to rather be focused on the worship of God and receive counsel from Wisdom which will help us complete the final preparations at this time. The fact that there was no communication between myself and my sister speaks of this being a time of individual preparation before the Lord. If we do not heed this warning we will find we have missed our appointment with the Bridegroom and the door is shut and we are left outside. In the dream, the Bride responded to a call that was not physically audible that the time for the wedding had come. Those relying on outward visible and audible signals missed the boat. The trumpet call summoning the Bride will be a sound in the Spirit and only those whose ears are straining to hear this cry will respond in time. The fact that the alarm went off and I fell asleep again speaks of the virgins who fall asleep while waiting for the Bridegroom. Some are sufficiently prepared and others are not. By the time they discover this, it is too late to do anything about it:

Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. Mat 25:2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Mat 25:3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: Mat 25:4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. Mat 25:5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. Mat 25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Mat 25:7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. Mat 25:8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. Mat 25:9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. Mat 25:10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Mat 25:11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. Mat 25:12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Mat 25:13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

It is also important to be alert for deliberate distractions that are sent your way, clouding your judgment and causing you to miss any important signals from Heaven for sudden departure. The enemy is well-aware of the preparation that is going on spiritually at this time and would like to cause as many as possible to miss their appointments in this season.
